Ubuntu Edgy Eft released

Well, I’ve been awaiting for this moment for quite a while. Today Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft has been released. I’ve downloaded the install cd and now writing from a Linux Edgy Eft box. The installation is just a piece of cake. The only difficult part perhaps is always deciding the partition map, but as I’ve installed linux a thousand times, it has not been a chore. In my opinion, Edgy Eft is faster than Dapper, mainly because there’s a new kernel the 2.6.17 which speeds up everything. While having installed Debian I already noted this increase in speed with this kernel. The look and feel is as always awesome. At this very moment I haven’t tried much software, but just to say that Ubuntu now plays mp3 out of the box. It comes with Firefox 2.0, you know, the bleeding edge. At this very moment seems quite impressive. I’ll write about this new release as time goes by and I test more software.
