Log4Tailer 1.42 released

July 8, 2009

I released Log4Tailer 1.42 http://code.google.com/p/log4tailer/ on Monday. It is just a minor release affecting mostly on the final reports once you finish tailing a log. Log4Tailer allows you to tail logs in colors amongst other features. It is very useful for software testers and developers alike. I’ve found myself multiple times tailing logs in black and white using the “Tail” Linux command line, which was a pain for my eyes to try to discern information from thousands of lines. In my career I’ve seen some software testers missing “warnings” or even “error” log4j log traces, missing important information that can lead to a bug, and a long etcetera. Some of the features maybe are not going to be that important, but the core functionality, i.e. tailing with colors is really a killer app if used properly along with top notch terminal managers like Terminator hosted in launchpad https://launchpad.net/terminator. Make your live easier and enjoy ;-) .

A new sleek design

July 30, 2007

From time to time I feel the need to change my blog skin. Now, it features a cool, simple and sleek design. The title of the blog has changed as well, as it is no longer true that I am a linux geek in Catalonia. As many of my readers know I am living in England. A simplistic theme, as simple as the look and feel of Gnome and Mac OS. Hope you like it!! ;-)

Back to normality in Bourne End and Marlow

July 29, 2007

The flood warnings have cleared in the area where I live. Today has been a sunny and nice day. The river still carries a high volume of water but hopefully in the following days things will go back to normal. The riverpath is very muddy and dogs, cows, ducks and swans enjoy a lot these conditions.

Flood warnings in Marlow and Bourne End

July 26, 2007

Damn weather. Now I have flood warnings all around my area, where I live and where I work. It is nearly impossible that the river reaches my home or the offices where I work, but mother nature is very powerful and a real catastrophe can happen when you never expect it. I am a little bit worried to be sincere and I really feel simpathy for all those in the south who have lost their homes temporarily due to the floods, as it is a very scary and sad situation.

From being in a very hot weather in Barcelona and suffering the worst power outage in Barcelona´s history, to the floods in England. Weather is really mad these days mostly due to the greenhouse effect. Governments must consider this abnormal weather conditions and provide solutions. Otherwise, the Earth is going straight to hell in a handcart.

Back to the beloved UK

July 25, 2007

After spending some days in the always cool ( damn hot weather though :) ) and lively Barcelona, meeting old friends and spending very nice dinners with my mother, I am back to Buckinghamshire. I arrived at Luton at 18:15. Incredible, this is the first time ever that easyjet arrives on time as I have had always delays with this company. There was a driver awaiting for me with a luxury mercedes to give me a 40 min drive to my home in Bourne End. Now, back on track and ready to work till next holidays. As for the weather, here is not as warm as Barcelona and there is no humidity. Now, there are flood alerts in my area, but there is nothing to be afraid so far. I have charged my batteries and I hope to write more often in this blog.

Here some shots, Tibidabo, Telecommunications tower, and Casa Batlló, enjoy:

Back on track from the United Kingdom

March 17, 2007

Currently I live in Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom (South East London). One month ago I had the opportunity to work for Spinvox, a very cool company based on Marlow, Buckinghamshire. I have just arrived in UK, so to speak, and it’s a great country. Salaries are much higher than Spain, and cost of life it’s not so much expensive than in Spain. So, it’s an important and decisive moment in my life. I’ve met lots of new and interesting people from many countries and it’s very nice. Now that I have 24h internet connection I will be able to update and collaborate more in ubuntuforums, modfree forums, and my blog. The company I work for is very cool and growing very fast. Now, although not being in my native country, I’m back on track. Internet and the world of knowledge have no limits.

A new laptop with Windows Vista preinstalled

February 3, 2007

I’ve just bought a new laptop hp pavillion dv6000 with the long awaited Windows Vista. I’ve tried to install Ubuntu but it has been impossible. My laptop is an AMD64 with an Nvidia video card. Either I will await for the next Ubuntu release or I’ll try to install Debian Etch. I have to make up my mind. At the moment I’m just experimenting with the new Windows operating system and its capabilities.

Just Rename version 02 codenamed Epping

January 14, 2007

My project is in its version 02 codenamed Epping with some bug fixes and a new feature. Discover it in sourceforge at http://justrename.sourceforge.net or in http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/justrename

If anyone wants to collaborate, do it and let me know. Although at the moment not tailored for the Linux platform, it is an Opensource Free Software Project. If anyone, knows about (or wants to learn) GTK# and Mono and would like to port the software, it would be a nice exercise.

Have fun!!

My first SourceForge Project

January 10, 2007

My first software project has been accepted in SourceForge. Made with C# and Windows Forms, it is a world class file renamer under the Windows Operating System. It is very fast, and very easy to use with some interesting features. It can find and rename files under a folder matching a specific ending string very fast. Suitable for renaming digital photos. When you import your digital photos from your camera, your photos most probably will have random names. What about giving your photos some interesting name, such as london2005 when you first visited London in 2005 or anniversary2006 or whatever. You’ll have a clear idea of what those photos are about.

It is, obviously, OpenSource and Free Software released under the terms of the GPL license. The project website is hosted in SourceForge in http://justrename.sourceforge.net/ or in http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/justrename
